Managing contracts and suppliers for success

Most project managers contract in,or outsource, an element of their project but this adds additional complexity.  In this master class you will learn the additional disciplines and experiences necessary to successfully run or supply into contractual projects.

Who is it for?

Are you (or will you be) responsible for delivering projects involving contractors and contracting organisations? Are you working closely with account managers or procurement specialists in formulating terms of engagements and supplier sourcing options? If you are working for an organisation that is supplying to a project or as a client contracting out parts of their project this master class is for you.

What will I gain?

In this master class you will learn the additional disciplines and experiences necessary, to successfully deliver projects with the added complexity of contract management.

Through course work you will examine the whole project lifecycle and understand where contracting is appropriate and how it may be developed from project inception to close-out. In particular, you will gain an understanding of the commercial and contractual issues that often sit awkwardly with the traditional time, cost and quality focus of the project manager, and how you can best work with the legal and procurement functions to ensure project success.

Key topics covered

  • Internal and external contracting implications
  • The project and contractual lifecycle
  • Defining the requirements
  • Partitioning the work – the risks and reward syndrome
  • Relationship management
  • The communication conundrum
  • The procurement lifecycle and best practices
  • Contracting language and its true meaning
  • Contract management, behaviours and success factors
  • Contractual vehicles and their effect on the project

Course approach

This three day master class is challenging; you will be using case work and exercises to reinforce the concepts discussed. The discussions follow the project and contract lifecycles utilising illustrative video based examples.

The tutors use their extensive contractual management experience to illustrate, and put into context, the concepts and techniques. Ample time is provided for discussions on how best practice may be applied to your own environments.

Duration

3 days.
