Coaching
What is the benefit of coaching?
Coaching allows you to address a particular development need, support office challenge or personal concern in a safe one-to-one environment. The learning and outcomes of the coaching session are immediately applied to your current role allowing you to show immediate value from the investment and addressing any barriers to application in the live environment.
When would I use coaching?
There are a number of circumstances where coaching may be an appropriate route for personal development:
- when you have been matched to a role which is recognised as being outside of your current level of experience and expertise and where the project(s) is deemed to be potentially ‘at risk’,
- if your support office set-up has reached a critical / difficult phase or has particular issues which you need external expertise to help solve
- when you have a training or development need that you need to address immediately and waiting for a course to be available isn't an option
- where you or your manager has identified a support office related skills/ knowledge / expertise gap which cannot be adequately addressed through training.
What is the approach to coaching?
There is no ‘standard one size fits all’ coaching approach; the style, length and number of sessions and content will depend entirely on your requirements, your level of experience and knowledge, the type of support office you're working in and the outcome targeted from the coaching event.
However, every engagement starts the same; by matching a coach to a coachee. This is achieved by taking details of your requirements, experience, support office type and complexity and the coaching goal to match you to an appropriate coach who has the relevant skills, knowledge, experience, expertise and qualities to support you.
Once you have been matched to a coach you will have an initial telephone conversation with them to create a ‘coaching agreement’. This outlines the goal for the coaching, including any timescales to be met, and details the approach to be taken.
