Making projects work

This workshop will develop your capability to produce credible project plans and manage their execution to achieve successful outputs.

Structured into two modules (of 3 plus 2 days duration), the workshop is highly action-orientated and makes use of real case studies to broaden your bandwidth of experiences.

You will be provided with a set of techniques and tools to plan and run projects successfully.

Who is it for?

Those with experience of working in or managing projects, who need to improve their capability to plan projects for success and manage effectively against the plan.

What will I gain?

The purpose of this workshop is to help make you an effective project manager, who is able to manage the delivery of a product with a degree of expertise, using disciplines of project management with understanding and confidence. The course focuses on challenges associated with the delivery and implementation of new processes, services and products.

You will discover how the application of a disciplined approach to the running of projects significantly reduces the risk of failure.  As a result of attending this workshop, you will be able to plan effectively, focus on project achievement, and better manage the expectations of senior stakeholders.

Key topics covered

  • The project business context
  • Planning for success
  • Forming and managing the team
  • Managing the requirements
  • Communicating the project
  • Actioning the plan

Workshop approach

Through discussions, videos and group activities, the first module supports you through the process of developing a credible project plan.  The second module exposes you to the three most common project problems associated with scheduling, resourcing, and scoping.  Using the ‘say, show, do’ approach, appropriate responses are analysed.

The two workshop modules are separated by 4-6 weeks, which allows the learning and personal impact to be considerably enhanced.  It allows you to try out the ideas on your projects and come back to discuss what to do next.

During and after the workshop we encourage you to contact the CITI facilitator to discuss your projects and how to implement techniques.  This supports the learning and is particularly effective when you are working in isolation.

Duration

3 days and 2 days, separated by a one month gap.
