Stepping up to the MSc
Ideally, participants on the MSc have at least three years’ experience of managing projects or programmes and have a good honours degree.
We run a structured programme for those who don’t currently meet the eligibility criteria to ‘step up’ to the MSc, using a combination of course attendance and work based activities to help guide your development towards being able to successfully achieve the MSc over the next four years.
You will need to be managing a project now and have approximately 1 year's experience of working within or managing projects.
Depending on what project experience you have, we will identify some pre-MSc activities that you will complete. A likely programme would be:
- Month 1 and 2 – complete the Making Projects Work course – this will ensure that you have covered the key project management skills and will accelerate your experience of managing a project by getting you to apply your new skills to a case study project on the course.
- Months 2 to 6 – Structured self-study that includes exercises and work-based assignments - this will support you in applying the skills from the course to your current projects and will include feedback to help you overcome any internal barriers to application.
- Month 7, 13 and 19 – Health checks of your project – this will check that your development is resulting in a step change in the way you manage your projects and help you to identify appropriate management actions to increase the likelihood of project success.
- Month 24 – MSc eligibility test and profiling – this will confirm if you are now ready to embark on the MSc and suggest any gaps in your knowledge or skills that still need to be addressed.
There is a financial cost associated with these activities which we can confirm once we’ve determined the right combination for you.
