When managing portfolios you need to be able to assess the desirability of the portfolio alongside its 'do-ability'. All of the courses at this level focus on the skills needed for successful portfolio management - the management of a series of independent projects to an interdependent portfolio which maximises the return on project management investment.
Key techniques in portfolio management
- Creating compelling business cases Business cases are often the only basis for making a decision about where to spend money and effort in projects and programmes. This course informs you about how to build and critique business cases for maximum strategic benefit.
- Effective project assurance The ability to review and provide feedback on the status of a project is a valuable skill for any portfolio manager who needs to be confident of the status of the projects within their portfolio. This course provides a consistent approach to project health checks and shows how best to feedback to the project manager.
- Managing contracts and suppliers for success Most portfolio managers contract in or outsource an element of their portfolio but this adds additional complexity. In this master class you will learn the additional disciplines and experiences necessary to successfully run or supply into contractual projects.
- Mastering the art of stakeholder engagement Managing stakeholders well is the cornerstone of portfolio success. A well-planned portfolio places the objective identification, evaluation, engagement and management of key stakeholders at the centre of the plans. This course will give you the skills to do this successfully.
- Project success through people The abilty to correctly identify and manage the resources in your portfolio is the key to success. This two day master class exposes you to the complex people aspects of managing portfolios. It examines how you should manage, influence, lead and direct each of the major stakeholder groups and make the most effective use of the people involved.
- Successfully embedding change The success of a portfolio is not truly felt by the organisation until the change is embedded. This key techniques course shows you the differences between 'real' and 'fake' change in an organisation and how to embed change so it sticks.
- Coaching Coaching allows you to address a particular development need, portfolio challenge or personal concern in a safe one-to-one environment. The learning and outcomes of the coaching session are immediately applied to your current portfolio allowing you to show immediate value from the investment and addressing any barriers to application in the live environment.
