Dates: 26 November 2009
Times: 10:30 to 16:00
Venue: Santander, London
The eighteenth meeting of CITI’s Centres of Excellence Club (CofEe Club) was held at Santander, St Tritons Square, London. The topic for the day was ‘Leadership in projects and programmes’.
Thomas Docker, Chairman of CITI, completed the general introductions before Santander Mortgages and Secured Lending Director gave a stimulating talk that touched on aspects of the UK economy and the strategic role Santander plays in the financial markets.
Bernard Murray-Gates, CITI Principal Consultant, contrasted leadership and management inside portfolios, project and programmes (P3). Bernard introduced the pentagon leadership model as a way of analysing types of leadership that are appropriate to P3.
Bernard’s session was followed by a group workshop, which asked for leadership behaviours to be identified for different P3 roles.
After lunch, a guest organisation entertained and informed members with something a little different. As professional actors they performed a group project role play that was an ‘influencing’ exercise of actions and consequences. Members were asked to interject and influence the interactions between the project manager and senior stakeholders, effectively ‘pulling the strings’ – and having a good time doing so!
The rest of the meeting was spent in a second group workshop that asked members to consider how leadership is or should be developed in their P3 environments.
Interactive discussions and group workshop exercises took place to explore the topic. Access to all presentations, workshop outputs and papers are available to CofEe Club members via the online forum.
