Project Challenge 2015
Don’t forget Project Challenge on Wednesday 7th October – come and see us at stand 56!

This free event with 40 inspiring presentations also includes a seminar by CITI Principal Consultant Bernard Murray-Gates will be speaking on “Holding difficult conversation with senior managers” at 2:00pm.

This scenario occurs in projects and programmes time and again…At the outset of a change initiative, disagreements about a business change project or programme must be handled wisely to retain high stakeholder commitment and engagement.

Later in the change lifecycle (as setbacks and ‘bad news’ inevitably emerge) the project team can find themselves in the ‘firing line’: this situation also needs careful handling.

Bernard Murray-Gates, Principal Consultant at CITI, will discuss what you can do about some of the trickier challenges that can predictably arise when dealing with senior business stakeholders.

Top ten factors that drive project failure
At CITI, we have seen with many clients, over many years, the impact of poor or even absent project sponsorship. These are the top ten factors for project failure (source: Gartner Group):

  1. Project sponsor not committed to the objective
  2. Project not aligned to the strategic vision of the company
  3. Projects are started for the wrong reasons
  4. Inadequate staffing
  5. Incomplete benefits and project scope definition
  6. Poor project planning
  7. Poor monitoring against baseline plan
  8. Insufficient funding / incorrect budgeting
  9. Lack of project methodologies and best practices
  10. Lack of formal sign off (including lessons learned)

Those that are highlighted in red lie squarely at the door of the project sponsor (source: PMI Pulse, 2014):

It is these five key actions that a sponsor can take to ensure that their projects are successful and avoid failure.

If this rings true with you, maybe you should attend our free seminar in the city that is focusing on project sponsorship this month from 4pm at:

  • The Arab-British Chamber of Commerce
  • 43 Upper Grosvenor Street
  • London
  • W1K 2NU

The event will finish at approximately 7.30pm.
