IT and technology

CITI has been working in the technology sectors since the early eighties, our origin as Cranfield IT Institute was partially funded by BT and we were then briefly owned by CSC.

Since becoming an independent company in 1992 we have worked with leading edge technology organisations such as BT Group, Codemasters, Toshiba, BBC and Orange, to mention but a few.

In the 1960’s, Intel’s founder predicted that the number of transistors that could be fitted onto a chip would increase at an exponential rate, approximately double every two years. He was right, the prediction still rings true some half a century later and has become known as Moore’s Law; that law also applies to much of technological advancement, such as processing power, data storage, digital camera technology and mobile phone technology.

That constant pace of technological change requires effective change management so new products and services can be developed and rolled out to the market quickly and efficiently. Processes must be robust but agile to permit solid requirements capture, enable effective change control and support the project teams to deliver rapidly.

When Orange embarked on a major change programme to integrate internet/mobile phone and digital TV chat under the new Orange World brand they used CITI’s strategic implementation planning process to overcome the organisational design issues while delivering a number of quick wins.

In addition to keeping up with technological advances, costs must be controlled in such a competitive market. This increases project complexity as organisations turn to outsourcing contracts, to reduce costs and focus on core capability.

In 2004, application of the CITI programme critical interfaces process to the BBCs SATT programme allowed the outsourced IT team to rapidly map the interdependencies between 190+ projects, providing complete visibility across the programme; portfolios were then able to be rationalised, reducing overhead and increasing value.

Successful project and programme management is essential to gaining greatest value from the opportunities rapid technological development provides, we partner with our clients to provide them with the project and programme expertise they need.
